Among the many methods of rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy, there is also hydro-rehabilitation, ie. performing exercises for movement in water. Water training (usually in the pool) helps to renew and strengthen the body. Water lessons are given to a child with a disability much easier than on land training: after all, in water, the pressure exerted by the weight on the spine and joints is greatly reduced. A sports program for the disabled has started in Moscow. It's called Fitness Without Borders. Muscovites with limited mobility can now exercise for free on simulators and swim in the pool, but so far only in one fitness club located in the Strogino area. The correspondent of "RG" found out the details of the new project.

Sport as a medicine

Of the more than a million disabled people living in the capital, 400,000 have medical indications for physical education and sports. Many of them ignore the recommendations of doctors. It is difficult to do fitness at home, and most do not have enough money for the gym. Three organizations have pledged to help people with disabilities: the Spiritual Fortitude Foundation, the European Paralympic Union and a chain of world-class fitness clubs. We decided to start with one of the fitness clubs in Strogino. Currently, 20 Muscovites with disorders of the musculoskeletal system aged 18 to 60 with group I, II and III disability study there for free. At the beginning, the organizers intend to work with this category of disabled people. Citizens with other diseases may join them in the future. Project participants were given subscriptions that give them the right to exercise on simulators and go to the pool. The burden on them is determined individually - depending on the possibilities, the level of physical fitness and medical indications. You can visit the club at least every day from 12:00 to 17:00.
