1. THIS IS GENERALLY SAFE EXERCISE DURING PREGNANCY
First of all, all pregnancies are different – it is essential to consult your doctor before starting an exercise program.
That said, in general, one of the biggest benefits of swimming is that it's a safe form of exercise for pregnancy . Water supports you and your stomach and can help reduce swelling in your ankles and feet.
And that's not all. Research has shown that pregnant women who swim early to mid-pregnancy have a lower risk of preterm labor and birth defects with Lifeguard Class.
2. THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS TO PRACTICE SWIMMING
Unlike other forms of exercise where there isn't always variety, there are several stroke styles you can use to keep your workout fresh:
- breaststroke _
- The crawl (or freestyle)
- The backstroke
- The butterfly
Additionally, some strokes, like the front crawl, lend themselves to a faster cardio workout, while the breaststroke can be done as a LISS (low-intensity steady state) workout with American Lifeguard USA.
TIP : If you find that certain strokes shorten your workouts (e.g. front crawl), you may be doing them wrong. People with poor technique are often forced to stop to recover. Swimming with good technique allows you to swim effortlessly and at a variable pace. It means faster and slower.
3. SWIMMING ALLOWS YOU TO CARVE AN APOLLO'S BODY
One of the main benefits of swimming is that water creates resistance for the whole body. Practicing any type of stroke works the whole body, but some areas are a little more stressed than others.
A. Breaststroke
It may be slower, but it's the best stroke for working the whole body. It helps strengthen the upper body , back and pecs . It also involves exhaling into water, which increases resistance on your chest and can improve your lung function.
And as if that weren't enough, it also helps tone the thighs and lower legs more than other strokes, due to its more complex leg movement.
B. Crawl
The fastest stroke is also the easiest for most people to master. Fortunately, like all other strokes, it shapes the whole body, but what makes it special is that it is the most effective for toning the upper body.
The front crawl uses the deltoids , which are the muscles in our shoulders, trapezius , triceps , and biceps .
C. Backstroke
The elegant swim. Adopting good technique for this stroke can help improve your overall posture. It is also excellent for strengthening the core and opening the chest muscles. The backstroke is the one that will help you shape your upper back, lower back, and thighs.
D. The butterfly
The ultimate calorie burner! If you can keep up the pace, swimming is undoubtedly the most calorie-burning. It takes a lot of power for the butterfly, as it requires strong triceps and biceps muscles.
It can help strengthen the shoulder muscles as you rotate the shoulders, which develops the deltoid muscles.
In addition to the back and chest, Butterfly puts a lot of strain on the legs and is one of the most important exercises for developing a strong core.
4. LEARNING NEW MOVEMENTS AND SEEING YOUR PROGRESS IS VERY SATISFACTORY
Not only does this keep things interesting, but mixing up your strokes also allows muscles and joints to rest from continuous actions if you're swimming for a long time.
All strokes complement each other well, in that improving your backstroke will help you improve your front crawl or breaststroke.
To improve your technique, break down the movements, then recompose them.
This allows you to concentrate and perfect this technique. Try doing lengths of a certain stroke with only the kick and without using your arms, then continue with the complete technique by bringing the arms back.
You can also do a few lengths focusing only on your arms, letting your legs float behind you.
Paying attention to particular areas will result in a better overall swim and a better workout.
5. SWIMMING CAN REDUCE STRESS
Exercise is a well-known mood booster, but did you know that it can also help buffer the effects of stress on a chemical level?
When you exercise, your body naturally lowers the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline , while also creating endorphins , the natural agents of good mood. If you're stuck between work and a stressful place, make time to move around, in the pool or elsewhere.
